Minimum driving age
The minimum driving age using is 17.

Seatbelt requirements
Passengers must wear front and rear seatbelts where fitted.

Children passengers
There is a front seat minimum of 12 yrs unless using a suitable child restraint.

Drink driving limits
Limits are 80mg/100ml.

Speed limits
Urban: 50 kph (31 mph)
Open road: 80-100 kph (50-62 mph)
Motorway: 110 kph (75 mph)

Radar regulation is frequent. Be aware that road signs display limits in kilometres.

Lights
Dipped headlights must be used in poor daytime visibility. Motorcycles must use dipped headlights during the day at all times.

Fuel
All grades of unleaded petrol, diesel and LPG are available although leaded petrol is not easily available. It is permitted to carry petrol in a can.

Tolls
There are two toll points in the Dublin area - M50 Ring Road, the M1 and the R131 East Link Bridge. Tolls are being introduced on some new motorways, for example the E1 (M1) route which connects Dublin and Belfast. Credit cards are not accepted for payment.

Parking
Parking is controlled by single and double yellow lines as it is in the UK.

Fines
On-the-spot fines are issued for parking offences. Ensure an official receipt is issued by the officer collecting the fine.

Mobile phones
It is illegal to use a phone whilst driving.
